Apathy
Angelina was just turning 40 years old and wasn’t concerned with getting a yearly mammogram. Her Ob/Gyn was retiring and called her to make one last appointment to see him. She did and during that visit the doctor immediately began to question the large lump that he found.
Frustration
Questions such as, “How long has it been there?” and, “Why didn’t you come in and see me about this?” were asked. Angelina was at a loss for words and began to think back to when she first noticed any sign of this tumor. She informed the doctor that she wasn’t overly concerned and thought she had just pulled a muscle working out. Angelina explained to her doctor how she had stopped working out in order to allow the muscle to heal.
Denial
That never happened and the denial began. Angelina made excuse after excuse and believed the lump could have been cancerous. The doctor immediately called a surgeon and made Angelina an appointment for a biopsy.
Change
Two days later, Angelina and her husband were told of the positive identification of breast cancer and immediate aggressive chemotherapy was recommended. In just 3 days, her and her family’s lives had changed forever.
