Mrs. Evelyn Holman
Daughter of Rev & Mrs Tippie Brabham was raised in Estill, SC. Upon completion of school Evelyn married her high school sweetheart James Holman and relocated to East Orange NJ. Where they raised 5 children together James, Rodney, Barry, Eric and Alicia. They have a total of 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Evelyn was employed with Newark Public Library in Newark, NJ in the Human Resource Department and retired in 2004. Shortly thereafter, Evelyn and her husband then relocated back to South Carolina where they are enjoying the fruits of their labor. However, before her retirement in June of 2000 Evelyn went to the doctor for annual Mammogram and the doctor noticed calcium deposits on her breast. The doctor instructed to remove all calcium deposits and have them tested. Unfortunately the test came back that the deposits were malignant. The good news was that the breast cancer was caught at an early stage. Evelyn and her family quickly began consultations with her team of doctors as to where do we go from here. Every appointment she attended her doctors were amazed at her support team, which consisted of about 6-7 people every visit, with the youngest person being 6yrs old and listening to every word out of concern for her grammie. The most important question Evelyn’s family asked was if this was your sister, mother, or wife what would you advise them to do. Without hesitation the doctor quickly said I would suggest removing the breast because if the cancer returns it can come back to both breast and with a vengeance. The family looked at Evelyn and she quickly said I’m a vintage spring chicken and married for 43 years do what you need to do because I’m choosing life. Evelyn underwent surgery to remove the breast and do the reconstructive surgery. There were a number of lymph notes removed and tested and came back fine. Evelyn says she and her family owe it all to the glory and goodness of God because she never had to do a day of Kemo or Radiation. Evelyn has lymphedema in the left arm due to the amount of lymph notes removed but she praises God that that is all she has. Evelyn has been cancer free for 14 years this June of 2014. The key to beating Breast Cancer or any other form of cancer is early detection. Evelyn implores you to please go to the doctor and take the time for all annual checks ups and physicals. |
